Visting Compassion International Project In Colombia
For years my family and I have supported Compassion International, but until our trip to one of the missions this summer, I had no idea just how much our contributions meant to the child we support. Getting to see what compassion does first hand was incredible.
What Does Compassion Do?
Compassion allows you to sponsor a child for just $38 a month. They partner with more than 6,700 churches in 25 different countries to help over 1.8 million babies, children, and young adults escape from poverty.
When we discovered Compassion we knew it was exactly the kind of cause we could get behind. Just like with Sprigs we believe that the holistic approach is best and Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program is a holistic, long-term approach to breaking the generational cycle of poverty.
Columbia, June 2017
When my wife and I decided to visit her family in Colombia, we knew we had to take the opportunity to meet Joiner. We had been sponsoring Joiner for years, he is the same age as our oldest daughter, and we saw this as our chance to see the kind of work Compassion does up close and in person.
When we arrived at the town that Joiner lives in, we discovered that it was a slum built in and around a garbage dump. Joiner, his mother, and his little brother live in a shack that a family member built for them after Joiner's father died.
Compassion supports Joiner and other children in the town by providing them with clean water and nutritious food, Compassion ensures that they can focus on their education, with which they can then use to break the cycle of poverty they find themselves in.
